ONEW from SHINee (SM Entertainment) is releasing his first regular album, ‘Circle,’ on March 6th.
This album comprises ten songs, including the single, ‘O (Circle),’ singing various moments in life that anyone can sympathize with, such as love and parting, expectation and disappointment, growth and anxiety, in ONEW’s peerless vocal tone and sensibility.
In addition, Kim Eana, the well-known lyricist who worked with ONEW several times through ‘Hello,’ ‘Alive,’ and ‘If You Love Her’ by SHINee, wrote the lyrics for the single, ‘O (Circle),’ to give a special touch. Singer-songwriter Sam Kim and rapper Giriboy also participated in producing the songs, adding colors to the album,
In particular, ONEW debuted as a solo artist in 2018 and demonstrated various music styles with two mini-albums, ‘VOICE’ and ‘DICE,’ and has become a seasoned vocalist through participating in various OSTs, collaborations, covers, and solo tours in Japan. All such activities raise expectations for his new songs.

The single, ‘O (Circle),’ is an R&B song that harmonizes dreamy arpeggio synth sound, heavy bass line, and groovy melody. The lyrics send a message, by comparing our lives to nature, that the good and the bad things that each of us experiences seem different but are similar to each other in the end, like the season that returns every year in a different but similar feeling,
‘Cough’ is a medium-tempo pop song with a lonely vibe. The lyrics express the yearning that continues to return after a parting, just like the cold we all catch at the turn of the season. ‘Rain On Me,’ partially composed and arranged by Sam Kim, is a lyrical ballad song with lyrics that unravel the scene where he thinks of the person he wants to see in the rain in the form of a monologue.
In addition, ‘Caramel’ is a witty jazz pop song featuring Giriboy, who also participated in the rap-making in the song. The lyrics compare the excitement of love to a sweet caramel. ‘Anywhere’ is a pop song that lets you feel ONEW’s charming falsetto along with the lyrics that say he will be with the one he loves whenever and wherever she wants.
‘Paradise’ features a cheerful guitar riff, refreshing synth sound, and romantic lyrics saying every moment with ‘you’ is a paradise. ‘Expectations’ is a danceable medium-tempo pop song with lyrics that wittily express the feeling of having expectations even after being disappointed every time, with recharging a run-out battery as a metaphor.
Other songs include ‘No Parachute,’ an indie pop song that depicts the inner story of a person who decks up by boldly throwing oneself into unfamiliar and fearful situations; ‘Walk With You,’ a sweet, medium-tempo pop song that expresses a person immersed in old memories, recalling the past; ‘Always,’ an emotional ballad with lyrics that promise to stay by ‘your’ side as usual even in difficult and anxious times. All ten songs will provide a special experience for the listeners.[1]
