It consists of the title track, "Poet | Artist", and a B-side, "Starlight". The single takes its name from Jonghyun's 2018 album, Poet｜Artist, and was released to celebrate SHINee's 17th anniversary.

On May 12, SM Entertainment announced that SHINee would release a single on May 25 to commemorate their 17th anniversary.[1] On May 18, they confirmed that the single was named "Poet | Artist", and released a trailer featuring five characters representing the SHINee members.[2]
